Ha'Oman 17
In 2005, the legendary Jerusalem nightclub Ha'Oman 17 relocated to downtown Tel Aviv, swiftly evolving into a sanctuary for the city’s LGBTQIA+ community. Historically defined by the frantic energy of the night, the venue is reimagined here through the stillness of the morning. Captured in the raw aftermath between events, these images reveal a skeletal architecture, uncovering nuances and textures typically obscured by strobe lights and the press of a crowd.
Nightclubs function as more than mere entertainment hubs; they are critical arenas for the formation and expression of identity. The migration of Ha'Oman 17 from the conservative landscape of Jerusalem to the secular heart of Tel Aviv underscores its significance as a site of social and cultural negotiation.
By documenting the space stripped of its primary function, this series examines the transformative nature of the "club" as a concept. The work investigates how these environments transcend their utility to become cultural landmarks, prompting a deeper look at the social dynamics that pulse beneath the surface of the city.
